SFP 10G SR vs LR selection (Oman & GCC)

Pick 10G SR for short multimode links inside a hall or building when OM3/OM4 plant and MMF connectors are already in place. Pick 10G LR for single-mode building-to-building or campus spans within the LR loss/reach envelope. Confirm host coding, DOM needs, and measured loss before purchase. Catalog brand labels are not OEM authorization claims.

SR vs LR checklist

FAQ

Can I use LR on multimode fiber?
Not as a normal design choice. LR optics are specified for single-mode fiber. Use the media class the optic and plant were designed for, or redesign the plant.
Is SR always cheaper enough to standardize everywhere?
No. If the backbone is single-mode, forcing SR creates plant mismatch. Standardize per link class, not a single SKU for all distances.
What belongs in an RFQ line for 10G optics?
Host model + OS train, SR or LR class, quantity, temperature range, DOM requirement, and acceptance test expectation on the target platform.
